The Butterfly Effect
is based on the idea of “The Butterfly Effect”. I was in my business incubator class and our professor told us to play a song that we love and think about our dream life. Right away I chose the song “Butterfly Effect” by Travis Scott. I started to passionately write and came to realize how much this song has been a part of growth throughout my life. Every time I have a growth period in my life, this song just seems to be my anthem. This made me realize I want my clothing to make someone love and feel confident in themselves just like this song does for me.
My thesis idea
I think the idea of the butterfly effect can be a really interesting topic to produce in clothing - meaning one small thing can make such a large difference. I am playing with designs that one detail such as bungeeing or rouching can change the entire look of the piece. I am playing with layering concepts where one piece can be placed on another, creating multiple different pieces in a sense and once again alluding to this idea of the butterfly effect. When bringing this collection back to this idea of Travis Scott, I always think about the experience he gives his fans. Through this collection and with this layering, I am giving every person and body type a different experience with every outfit and piece.
I will display each garment on a different body type. This is an idea I explored with my CFDA and womenswear project last fall that I want to bring to light and make work. This collection will be womenswear and a ready to wear collection. I want it to be realistic for the everyday working woman. My age range will be between 18-35. My customer is someone who has a hard time finding clothing that fits properly. She is hardworking, loves fashion, is professional but knows how to have a good time. She works in a city and has a busy schedule.
My idea is to have clothing be a small thing that impacts my customers life to love themselves and become the most confident version of themselves.
